About the Book

This second volume of a planned multi-volume series deals with the following topics : acid base chemistry and tautomerism in organic molecules, halogenation reaction and preparation of alkanes, nucleophilic substitution and elimination reactions of saturated substrates, nucleophilic acyl substitution with a special emphasis on esterification reactions of saturated substrates, nucleophilic acyl substitution with a special emphasis on esterification reactions and ester hydrolysis and six Name Reactions, which include Arndt-Eistert reaction. Pinacol-pinacolone rearrangement, a-halogenation of carbonyl compounds, Hell-Volhard-Zelinsky halogenation, Hunsicker reaction and Cunene-phenol process.   Written in a lucid and student- friendly conversational tone the book aims to develop the basis understanding of organic chemistry suitable for an undergraduate and graduate audience with an emphasis on synthetic organic chemistry. The text is supplemented with scores of problems, the solution to which are supplied at the end of each chapter, thus making  this book suitable for use as a self-study guide. Additional problems are also provided for each chapter which offers opportunity for testing problem-solving skills.
